It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart, and head.”
As said by Hendri Cartier-Bresson "your first 10,000 photographs are your worst". Thus my journey was no different. I used to get stunned looking at all the astounding and pre-eminent pictures displayed at the Exhibitions! Being a novice, my only dream was to have one of my pictures exhibited in any of such Exhibitions!
Exhibition, particularly Wildlife and Astro photography ones were rare.. Limited to members of group or tied to memberships with huge subscription. Only such members would get to participate and exhibit their work under those banners. This instigated an intent to conduct an exhibition for amateurs like me and the quest began here!!!
Visiting such exhibits quite often those days and sometimes even same exhibits multiple times to understand the photography depth. Minute observations of the selection criteria of photographs, themes and all such requirements for exhibiting this art. And finally overcoming all vicissitudes with assistance of our patrons we successfully orchestrated our first photography exhibition in Thane in 2013!
An exposition of its own kind - hosted by and for young amateur photographers! The overwhelming and enormous response received from the photographer and visitors was the guerdon for our efforts! Since then, Srushti Exhibition has progressed towards providing a platform to young talented photographers to display their work!
The event which started with just 13 photographers exhibiting their photographs in a small gallery of Thane Kala Bhawan in May 2013, got more than 2500 entries in 2018, submitted by more than 300 photographers from all across the country. With the proliferated family we could showcase wide range of herpetofaunal biodiversity under one roof!
2018 being climactic landmark for Srushti, marking the association of some of the renowned photographers, cinematographers, brands and NGO’s. Events like screening of Mr. Nalla Mutthu’s documentaries, Quiz competitions by WWF, Talk on Ethics in Wildlife Photography by Mr. Parvish Pandya, Slideshows by Mr. Lalit Deshmukh and Mr. Yuwaraj Gurjar were colossal hit.
In 2020 the outbreak of COVID-19 had brought entire world to stand still. As the whole nation resorted to the work from home regime and the entire dynamics were shifted to digital platform, Srushti 2020 rejiggered itself to a online photography competition to unite all the wildlife enthusiasts. The response compelled us to work harder. In our conquest to reach maximum audience, we published its first ever coffee table book in 2020.
With all the adoration and support from Nature Lovers, Photographers and visitors, we are planning for better and improved events year on year! Stay Tuned !!! Best is yet to come …
